At the tail end of a 600 mile trip home from our house, they got to the bottom of their driveway and the vehicle wouldn't engage first. Full throttle he was crawling at 1mph while the trans slip slipped away.

2013 Fusion, 5k miles on the odo.

Towed it to the shop. Shop tells them it was low on fluid. Topped it off and sent them packing. The first time pulling away from the dealer it gets to third gear, same thing happens. Shop takes it back in, now two days later no word on what's happening.

I heard a ton of crap about the joint gm ford trans in the previous Bu and Fu, but the record on the new fusion seemed clean. Any idea what is going on?

The 'Bu was always fine in the previous gen. When I bought my Fusion, that was the reason I bought it. I had had so much trouble with the Fiesta DCT unit that I didn't want to risk the Focus. I found out later on (research online) that Ford and GM did design it together but Ford cheaped out on the parts quality. That can and does make all the difference in the world. Good luck.

I would bet that the low fluid over 600 miles probably burned something up. could have been a bad seal that was a really really slow leak but leaked way more due to a really long trip, thusly frying said transmission.

I don't know that they share transmissions with GM yet? I thought the first joint venture trans is that crazy new 10 speed

And it is little shit like this and big shit like this, why I sway my clients away from Ford products. I know I am being overly harsh on them, but I don't want my clients in a vehicle that is going to give them problems. I have heard too many stories from frustrated Ford owners. It seems like their new tag line is- "Ford, nice to drive...not so nice to own."

Ford should make a new Pinto and keep all the old features. Shouldn't be too hard if it's based on the Escape

I own a 2010, owned 2006 Ford before that, they were nice to drive + own. My dad owns a '12 Focus with about 14,000 miles, he is also very happy.

Bet that thing didn't have enough fluid from the factory. I've seen near empty diffs straight off the showroom floor before.

Yeah I really like the Focus...but they tend to be a crap-shoot some are problem free some are very frustrating.

Could've been worse... Could've pulled a Ferrari and had the trans burst into flames instead of slipping
